Autumn Memories..

On this lovely 22nd day of September, 2013, autumn has officially arrived in all her glorious splendor.  Well, at least here in the northern hemisphere, anyway, and I for one, couldn't be happier about that!

I love the autumn season. For me it calls up sweet memories of my early childhood days. I can still see the trees that lined our street, all adorned in vivid, radiant colors. I fondly recall the odor of orchard-ripened apples and pears in all their varieties as I walked to and from my little elementary school up the hill.

We would play for hours on end in these richly-scented orchards. They served as all the magical kingdoms our little hearts could possibly imagine. And then, every year my parents would load all five of us kids into the car (usually a station wagon) and take us for  a ride through the canyons, so we could witness even more of mother nature's majesty.

And tell me...Who can resist those piles of freshly raked leaves that look far too comfortable to ignore?  I know we didn't...

One of the precious lights in my life!
And even now, if I close my eyes I can feel the crispness in the air and breathe in the homey scent of burning logs on cozy fires all throughout my neighborhood.

For me, pumpkin patches, harvest moons, the anticipation of Halloween, and even the smell of wet, rotting leaves are inseparably connected to fall.

  1. I love autumn! Although I've been on vacation the last week, enjoying the beach (yes, it was warm enough...though not warm enough to go in the ocean, brr!), I'm in an autumn frame of mind.

I love your picture of the little one. Oh, how I remember jumping into piles of leaves with friends. Trick-or-treat was always a special time too, as we ventured out in our costumes into the night. It always felt like a magical time. And I loved searching out the perfect pumpkin for carving, then digging into the shell and scooping out the gunk (my parents did the carving). Even today, I still look for the perfect pumpkin with excitement when October rolls around.

    Great post, Debbie!

    1. Don't you just love to see the various faces on all the jack-o-lanterns during Halloween? I remember seeing pretty scary looking ones out there during our trick-or-treat sessions....

Thanks for stopping by and making a comment Mae! You know I love to hear them!
